Thanks guys for you interest in helping end horse slaughter in America. I have sent you both an email via The Humane Society so you can ask your state Senators to support the Sweeney-Sprat bill to end this horrible act. It is not spam! Thanks again, I really appreciate it, and also left you a comment in my Save the Domestic Horse thread. Take care. Cindi

We concern ourselves with personal trivialities while entire species are being wiped out

A very sad reality...nothing should be hunted to extinction.

Thanks Cindi and everyone that contributed to this thread. It was very informative. I guess we don't always consider how the animals suffer to keep us happy at the next Bar-B-Que

Whale hunting shows how primitive, selfish and greedy the human race is.

Right on. Given the opportunity, we would plunder this world and leave nothing for the ones to follow.

Long live the whales
Long live domestic horses
Long live the Prairie Dog and the Timber Wolf
and God give us the wisdom on how to make it happen and to look at the big picture.

In the last four years, HSI estimates nearly a quarter of all the whales slaughtered in Japan’s Antarctic research program have been killed in the Australian Whale Sanctuary

Thanks for the link, Jafo. It sure is an eye opener. Maybe something will be done. Hopefully before it is too late.

It's great to see that people in the U.S. and elsewhere are interested and concerned about Japanese whaling in Aussie waters. Thanks to all, and to Jafo for raising the issue. Having been thrilled to be up close and personal with whales at various times in my life, I find it a despicable practice and it must be stopped, given that it is purely to feed a fad market, unnecessarily. More international pessure is required

Extintion is not an option....for any species

I read somewhere along these threads that the Bible said we should eat everything that moves and is alive I suppose that includes eating human flesh too. I do think we should respect all around us because if we do chop down and kill living things we will in the end be the only ones left. I do not think we should be on the same levels as animals but should have respect for them. I won't mention in which countries this happens but it does happen and that is that hunting humans is another bored Rich Mans new hobby. They get provided with poor souls that will not be missed by society or they pay their families some pittance to have them as hunting targets. Well than we shouldn't get surprised by anything else.
And Jafo is right, I am an Aussie too and I didn't get offended by him saying D.Heads as that's what we really are because we are not united in fighting for the wrong. In the end we the people are the ones that have chosen the Howard government. Whale slaughter can be stopped and a lot of other bad things that are happening in the world but most people are pre-occupied with how to suceed and get rich than what we are going to leave behind us for the next generations. As far as the Bible goes I know God is great and has the power but the Bible has been updated throught times and it's deffinitely not his hand writing. Any way we all should know one thing and that is just put your self in the other position for example let the hunted become the hunter and see how you like it. Noah didn't save tha animals so people can be cruel to them. We do not live in the Troglodyte era and in caves any more we just behave like it.

Most welcome C as you are fighting for the rights of animals who have no choice over the matter but we do to some extent at least we are here and trying. YKILYCB.

I agree with you, OzGirl, there is a huge difference between the practical utilization of animals for food, and cruelty to animals. Just like there is a difference between killing for necessity and killing for sport, useless slaughter and managed harvesting. This is one of those things that you wish everyone could possess a bit of common sense about. There are going to be as many different opinions as there are different people, but we do need to manage what we have left in a humane way and in a way to protect the species.

FYI: Before Noah, God gave of every herb and fruit to eat (Genesis 1:29). After Noah (actually to Noah), in the Noahic covenant, God gave of every "beast of the earth, bird of the air, fish of the sea and every herb" for food (Gensesis 9:1-7) the qualifying fact is found immediately after, when God says "whoever sheds man's blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God he made man(kind). And as for you, be fruitful and multiply"
This could move into a drawn out debate on capital punishment at some other time; my point being that man was not part of the food chain and anyone who partakes of that would be a murderer.

I agree with you Sleeping Dragon but most of us know that now days murdering someone is a less of a charge in most countries than evading taxes. Any way I just wish it was not put up on us so much of needing to achieve and having to have and that way everything else wouldn't be in the situation that it is in. When we put money in front of everything else we end up in a situation we are in now. I don't read the Bible that much but I belive in God so much. I just know that I have to have compasion and care for everything around me. I just wish there was more understanding among people, for us to care for each other and life gets to be a lot more relaxed and enjoyed by us all in these trying times and our short lives.
About murder well what I wrote above is real and a real game for some people, the world is becoming decadent. While ordinary people are controlled and limited in so many ways. About sheding mans blood well we are really good at doing that to each other really well too.

A quote that I beleve in, and often fall short of, is "if you're going to make a mistake, make it on the side of compassion"

Well said, OzGirl

Thank you Sleeping Dragon, we all fall short in certain things that we do through our life and that is just normal, we can't be perfect and it would be dull if everything was as such. The thing that is important, is to realize what we did wrong. as some people don't see that at all, or if they do see their mistakes, they are afraid to admit to them. I agree with you as I my self have fallen short a lot of times, but we can only strive to do better and we can't ask more from ourselves than to improve.
